was started in 2002. Dan & Chris Martin who are life
members of the NSSA and NRA, have been participating and competing in
the shooting sports since 1982. They were originally introduced to
American Skeet back in 1982, by some very close friends and it became an
absolute passion from that time forward.
They
moved on to Olympic (International) Skeet in 1984 after attending the
1984 Olympics shooting event, which was held at Prado Tiro in Chino,
California.
They competed in International Skeet from
1985 to 1991, and shot all of the National Championships from 1985 to
1989 and the Olympic Trials in 1988. Chris has placed 10th in the
country in the ladies division. They were invited to the Philippine
National Championships held at Clark Air Base in Manila where they won
the Silver Medal for team and Dan won the Gold Medal for individual.
During the “golden era” of International
Skeet in southern California, Chris ran the Southern California
International Skeet Shooting Association (SCISA) for 3 years and hosted
several of the Regional & Zone Championships.
They were privileged to meet, befriend and
shoot with some of the country’s finest shooters.
Dan
was a Master Class shooter & Chris was an A Class Shooter. They also
competed and shot sporting clays during its infancy in Southern
California, and when they retired from International Skeet, they then
moved on to Sporting Clays full time, which is where their passion now
lies. They relocated to Baudette, MN in May of 1991 and have just been
shooting sporting clays for fun rather than competition due to the
limited shooting season in northern Minnesota. However, competition not
being totally out of the blood, Dan became a member of the Polaris
Shooting Team in 1999 & 2000. While on the team, he participated in the
NASCAR/Polaris/Remington Celebrity Charity Shoot down in North Carolina
where Richard Petty was the “Master of the Hunt”. In 1999 Dan placed 4th
in this event and in 2000 he took 2nd place.
In the spring of 2002 Dan & Chris decided
to start a sporting clays field here in Baudette, and share their
passion for this wonderful sport with local area & visiting shooters.
Sadly, Dan passed away in November of 2004 but his wife Chris continues
the range operation.
